2025 Broadcast Reporting (Features) Winners

Caitlin Esch, Stephanie Hughes, Nancy Marshall-Genzer, Minju Park & Jayk Cherry, Marketplace

About the Winners:

Marketplace’s special episode gave listeners a sense of how varied personal finance education is across the country. In addition to taking listeners into classrooms in Oklahoma, Virginia, and Tennessee, reporters also visited a casino and a metalworking company, both of which exert surprising influence over what personal finance education close to them looks like.

Journalists also took a hard look at one of the private organizations creating curricula, run by personal finance guru Dave Ramsey. Overall, the reporting involved in-depth interviews with dozens of students, parents and educators. The show aired on 71 stations nationwide, with more than a third in top 50 markets.

Comments From the Judges:

“This special covered considerable ground looking at personal finance education from different perspectives. It was well done, well executed, and a great example of exceptional journalism.”

“Great and deep reporting with voices of teachers, students, people at casinos and also stats. First person stories and in-the-field narrated experience from the reporter. Starts with a question that made me interested (!) Very strong entry on an incredibly timely topic. Impressive production value and characters. Strong points for impact and curriculum too.”
