Session Information
How can journalists be thoughtful and ethical when interviewing LGBTQ+ youth for media coverage? It is crucial for journalists to cover the experience and nuances of this demographic but to do it mindfully. Education journalists are constantly in conversation with students and their greater support system (parents, teachers, mentors, etc).
This session will highlight the stories of education reporters who’ve brought the voices of LGBTQ youth front and center. This session will dive into the reporting practices, recommended media outlet policies and other skills attendees can use for their own work – all while remaining thoughtful.
