Freelance Education Reporters
EdSurge, a nonprofit news outlet that covers the powerful forces, fascinating people and innovative practices influencing teaching and learning today, is looking for freelance education reporters to help maintain its news coverage while some staff members are out on leave.
Details:
EdSurge is looking for versatile freelance reporters who are passionate and knowledgeable about the people and ideas that shape education, especially during this period in which schools are still trying to recover from the effects of the pandemic; young people are experiencing unprecedented mental health challenges and competition for their attention; and a new administration promises to usher in change. Reporters will be asked to pitch story ideas about a wide cross-section of educators, students and policymakers in early childhood, K-12 and higher education.
We welcome creative, confident and concise writers who can communicate complex ideas to our audience. Not every article will be 700-900 words long. Sometimes charts and graphs do a better job at telling the story, while other stories are best told through rich, evocative photographs.
Freelancers will be asked to pitch their own story ideas based on our coverage areas but may also be offered assignments from our news editor.
If you are interested in reporting and writing for us, please send a resume and three clips to Mary-Liz Shaw at mary-liz@edsurge.com.
