Shayla Cannady

Shayla Cannady is the chief communications and external affairs officer for Chiefs for Change, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming K–12 education. 

The organization unites superintendents and system leaders in a national peer network that fosters collaboration and evidence-driven leadership, providing targeted support, executive coaching and customized resources while elevating practitioner voices and advocating for policies that expand equitable opportunity. 

Previously, Shayla served as the chief communications officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and earlier led public relations at Orange County (Florida) Public Schools. Recognized as a Charlotte Business Journal Power 100 honoree within 15 months of relocating, Shayla is known for building understanding, engagement, and support for complex educational initiatives. 

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Florida A&M University, a master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Central Florida, and is a doctoral candidate in strategic communication at UCF.
