Beth Francesco

Incoming Executive Director

Beth Francesco will become executive director of the Education Writers Association on Sept. 28, 2026.

Prior to joining EWA, Francesco served as executive director of the National Press Club Journalism Institute, the nonprofit affiliate of the National Press Club. There, she oversaw significant organizational growth, expanded training programs, increased the number of journalists served across the United States, and strengthened the Institute’s financial and operational foundation. Her leadership advanced the Institute’s dual mission of professional development and press freedom advocacy, positioning it as a leading resource for journalists at all stages of their careers.

A dedicated educator and mentor, Francesco has designed and led training programs for thousands of journalists, with a particular focus on strengthening reporting in complex and evolving fields such as public health and education. She has worked closely with experienced reporters and emerging journalists alike, equipping them with the tools, ethical grounding, and subject-matter expertise needed to produce impactful reporting.

Francesco began her career in local journalism, serving in editing roles at the Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times. She later moved into higher education, advising and teaching for 10 years at the University of Texas at Arlington. She’s also been an adjunct professor at American University in Washington, D.C.

In addition to her executive leadership, Francesco has served in a range of volunteer and advisory roles across journalism support organizations. Her work reflects a belief that investing in journalists through training, support, and advocacy is essential to an informed and engaged public.
