About
Although school districts nationwide are expected to offer full-time, in-person instruction during the 2021-22 academic year, millions of students are poised to stick with online learning, with the number of virtual options growing. This raises a host of important questions for families, communities, and educators.
Watch the Education Writers Association’s timely webinar on remote learning. Experts identified critical questions education reporters should be asking in their local communities and provided some early answers.
For example, who is choosing remote instruction for the 2021-22 academic year, and why? What lessons were learned from the remote experience last school year? What changes are being made to improve it? Will the remote option provide comparable quality to in-person instruction? In addition, what are the implications for educational equity by race, ethnicity, and income level? What are the stakes for school budgets? The list goes on.
The webinar came as roughly one-third of public schools continue to offer virtual schooling to families who request it. Some districts are offering multiple virtual options and making other changes to ensure students receive a higher quality of learning.
