The Education Writers Association is pleased to announce the inaugural cohort of “New to the Desk,” a training program for education editors with fewer than five years of experience in the role.
EWA selected 15 editors from a diverse mix of newsrooms after a competitive application process. Participants will learn from top editors who have deep expertise in newsroom management, leading investigative teams, and responding to the politicization of education, among other topics.
“The strong response to this opportunity reflects our members’ commitment to continually enhancing their skills and the need to help train the next generation of editors,” said Kathy Chow, EWA’s executive director. “We look forward to bringing together this stellar group of journalists and supporting their growth as editors at a critical time for the nation’s newsrooms.”
The virtual cohort will meet online from April to August. Participants will have the opportunity to meet in person at EWA’s 78th National Seminar in St. Louis this May.
