EWA Reporting Fellowship: Applications Open for 19th Class
This winter 2025 fellowship round features micro-fellowships up to $5,000 and expanded fellowships up to $10,000, with the latter including online and in-person cohort experiences.
The Education Writers Association is pleased to announce a call for proposals for its 19th class of EWA Reporting Fellows. These fellowships provide financial awards to journalists, helping them undertake ambitious, enterprise reporting projects.
For the winter 2025 fellowship round, EWA is offering two types of fellowships: expanded fellowships and micro-fellowships.
Expanded fellowships will provide financial support up to $10,000 for in-depth reporting on issues pertaining to men of color and the challenges they face when seeking postsecondary education. Fellows selected for this stand-alone cohort will have the chance to connect with peers covering related topics and issues, both virtually and in person at EWA’s 78th National Seminar in St. Louis in May 2025.
Additionally, EWA is offering micro-fellowships up to $5,000 for in-depth reporting on arts education, after-school learning, school leadership and summer learning.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring together two of EWA’s most-popular and sought-after programs: our fellowships and our online cohorts for reporters seeking to boost their skills and knowledge around specific topics and issues,” said Kathy Chow, EWA’s executive director. “We know many reporters would like to pursue stories that are ambitious but also hope to build out their professional relationships with peers across the industry.”
To date, EWA has supported more than 120 projects, resulting in high-quality, impactful education stories in various media in communities nationwide.
EWA selects reporting fellows through a competitive application process. Recipients have significant flexibility in how to use the funds, including travel for reporting, relief from regular newsroom duties and attending workshops.

The application deadline is 8:59 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Recipients will be notified of their status by early January.
