The Education Writers Association is pleased to announce the newest EWA Reporting Fellows. The fellowship program provides financial awards and other resources to support innovative and timely education journalism. This is the 19th class of the program, which launched in 2016.
In this round, a new expanded fellowship offered up to $10,000 for in-depth higher education projects, and the micro-fellowship offered up to $5,000 for stand-alone P-12 stories. These projects will be published over the coming year.
“This was one of the most competitive rounds of our fellowship program since its inception, reflecting our enthusiastic and ambitious journalist members,” said Kathy Chow, EWA’s executive director. “We look forward to supporting their vital work.”
Twelve reporters, including a team, were selected for expanded fellowships. Those reporters, which comprise the higher education cohort, will focus on reporting on challenges and opportunities for men of color in college. The cohort will meet virtually over the coming year and gather in person at EWA’s 78th National Seminar in May 2025.
Additionally, three reporters were selected for micro-fellowships, looking at issues related to P-12 school leadership, after-school and out-of-school learning, and arts education.
