Leadership Transition at EWA: Caroline Hendrie to Step Down as Executive Director in Summer 2022

Washington, D.C. – After 12 years as executive director, Caroline Hendrie will be stepping down as the leader of the Education Writers Association (EWA) in late July, following EWA’s 75th annual National Seminar, which will be held in Orlando July 24-26.

Under Hendrie’s leadership, EWA’s staff and budget have both tripled, and the organization solidified its position as the hub of the national education journalism community. In response to member needs, Hendrie led her team to introduce new offerings including the EWA Reporting Fellowships, EWA Webinars, the Diving Into Data program, the New to the Beat program, EWA Radio, EWA Online Reporting Communities, the State of the Education Beat reports, the EWA Advisory Boards, and more. She and her team worked continuously to improve long-standing offerings such as the flagship annual National Education Seminar, the annual Higher Education Seminar, EWA.org, the Public Editor Service, and the National Awards for Education Reporting.

Collectively, you have enriched the working lives of colleagues across the country and helped one another contribute more meaningfully to our profession and the public good.”

I’m grateful for her leadership.”

The EWA board of directors will launch a national search with the goal of welcoming a new chief executive later this year.
