SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. JAN. 18, 2023 — The role of effective communication has never been more critical, but districts and schools face a gamut of challenges in engaging all parents and guardians — especially the hardest-to-reach families. At the 2023 TCEA Convention & Exposition, Communication Specialist John Karstetter from Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) will discuss how districts can bridge the communications gap between school and home. His session, “Reaching the Last 10%: Engaging the Hardest-to-Reach Families,” will be held Jan. 31 from 3 to 4 p.m. in Room 212AB  of the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio.

In his 60-minute session, Karstetter will discuss five common barriers that impact family engagement and share practical communications recommendations. Attendees will leave with best-practice methodologies for leveraging technology tools, such as the ParentSquare platform, to positively impact family engagement. This session is geared to preK-12 superintendents, principals, chief technology officers, and technology directors at all levels

Karstetter is part of the Technology Services Department in CFBISD, which serves 24,939 students across 38 campuses. CFBISD has partnered with ParentSquare, developer of the premier unified school-home engagement platform for K-12, since 2018.

Educators interested in learning more about how to communicate, involve, and collaborate with families for student success can visit ParentSquare at booth 1320 in the Robert E. Knight Exhibit Hall at the TCEA Convention and Exposition. The exhibit hall is open Jan. 31 from 1 to 6 p.m., Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
