BookNook Named to the 2023 GSV 150

The annual list highlights the 150 most transformational private companies in digital learning and workforce skills shaping the future of education

OAKLAND, Calif.  (January 25, 2023)BookNook, a leader in effective high-impact tutoring, announces the company was named to the 2023 GSV 150, an annual list that highlights the most transformational private companies shaping the future of education and making a difference.

The latest National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) report shined a light on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ reading and mathematics progress, with fourth- and eighth-grade students’ scores dropping in both subjects. However, research shows high-impact tutoring is effective in helping students—including those behind their peers in reading or mathematics—address these challenges and make significant academic progress.

Focused on closing the equity gap in U.S. public schools, BookNook works with schools and districts to provide high-impact tutoring and an engaging curriculum. To ensure BookNook’s tutoring is effective, students and tutors meet for frequent and consistent sessions, often 2–3 times a week for 30 minutes or more. Recognizing the importance of authentic connections, BookNook also works with schools and districts to ensure the same tutor meets with the same student to build trust and create strong relationships.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as one of the select companies making a true difference in the lives of educators, students and families,” said Michael Lombardo, Founder and CEO of BookNook. “Now more than ever, it is crucial we support our students and work together to address challenges from the pandemic. High-impact tutoring makes a difference, and we are determined to provide all students equitable access to rigorous and engaging instruction through BookNook.”

The 2023 GSV 150 list represents the most transformative private companies in digital learning and workforce skills shaping the future of education. GSV evaluated more than 4,000 private companies across five key factors, including revenue scale, revenue growth, user reach, geographic diversification and margins to determine the top 150 companies worldwide.

“We are excited to release the annual GSV 150 list, a selection of the leading private companies in digital learning and workforce skilling,” said Alexandra Argo, investor at GSV Ventures. “As we enter into what we call a ‘Brave New World,’ it is clear that you cannot use an old map to navigate a new world. This impressive group of companies continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of learners and businesses at scale. After evaluating more than 4,000 companies globally, we are proud to present the list of the 150 most-impactful companies in digital learning that are leading the charge in providing all people equal access to the future.”

Together, GSV estimates BookNook and the other companies reach roughly 3 billion people—almost half of the global population.
