Lightspeed Approved as Vendor for Texas Silent Panic Alert Technology, Helping Districts Meet Alyssa’s Law Requirements

Integrated instructional audio system offers daily classroom communication and emergency response at the push of a button

Tualatin, Ore. (August 12, 2025)  –– Lightspeed, a trusted provider of instructional audio and classroom communication systems, has been officially approved as a vendor for silent panic alert technology in Texas. This approval directly supports school districts in meeting the new requirements of Texas’s Alyssa’s Law, which mandates the installation of panic alert systems in all public school classrooms to ensure immediate notification of emergency services during a crisis. Named after Alyssa Alhadeff, a 14-year-old student tragically killed in the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the law addresses the critical need for swift emergency response by requiring discreet panic alert buttons that directly alert authorities, extending school safety into every classroom.

Lightspeed’s Cascadia instructional audio platform integrates with leading building and safety communication systems, equipping teachers with a microphone that delivers both crystal-clear instructional audio and essential panic alert functionality. This dual-purpose system enhances everyday classroom management by keeping students more engaged and focused while reducing disruptions before they escalate. When situations do arise, the teacher-initiated two-way calling feature enables direct communication with the main office or security personnel, allowing educators to request assistance at the push of a button and coordinate responses without leaving the classroom or disrupting instruction.

“While Alyssa’s Law focuses on those rare but serious emergencies, Lightspeed is uniquely designed to support the everyday communication needs of educators,” said Charles Luke, Ed.D., Director of the Coalition for Education Funding. “Whether it’s a behavioral issue, medical situation, or sudden disruption, teachers gain the autonomy to act immediately and confidently while maintaining their focus on student safety and learning.”

As districts are increasingly adopting multi-layered approaches to safety, Lightspeed provides a solution that creates safer, more engaging learning environments that support both comprehensive district safety strategies and teacher agency and retention.
