EWA Radio: Episode 59
EWA Radio: Episode 59
Many community college students dream of making the transition to a four-year institution but the application process can be daunting – especially if you don’t have experienced family members to ask for help. Enter the “Pushy Moms” at LaGuardia Community College, a volunteer group of mothers well-versed in the ins and outs of the higher education admissions maze.
Barbara Kantrowitz, of The Hechinger Report, talks with EWA public editor Emily Richmond about this innovative effort to improve transfer success rates for low-income students (many of them first-generation college goers with families living in other countries). She also offers some story ideas for higher education reporters also looking at community college issues.
