Mark your calendars! The 2024 Nation’s Report Card – or the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) – is coming Jan. 29 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern.
The Education Writers Association held a webinar to help reporters plan nuanced coverage of results for grades 4 and 8 in reading and math by nation, state, and urban district. Watch the webinar recording to learn about NAEP’s new data tools on chronic absenteeism, a new socioeconomic status index, and updates to other online data tools.
Expert speakers explained the fundamentals of NAEP, its uses and misuses, and offered ideas on how to tell more stories with the data. They also offered guidance on second-day stories, such as unpacking subgroup results by race, ethnicity, gender, English-language learners, and other categories.
